Patti Drew: Hard to Handle

Patti Drew released four minor R&B hits in the late ’60s, including her cover of Otis Redding’s “Hard to Handle” in 1968. As far as I can tell, it was the first successful cover of the tune, reaching #40 on the R&B charts only months after the Redding version was posthumously released. Drew’s version is a little funkier than the Redding version, with a slightly increased pace, and her vocal delivery is fantastic.
