The Horrors: Count In Fives
The Horrors have been around for about 20 years, but I only recently discovered them through their guest appearance as fictional band The Black Tubes on Season 3 of the wonderfully absurdist BBC show The Mighty Boosh in 2007. I haven’t listened to their more recent material yet, but their first two albums have hooked me with their unapologetic merging of ’60s garage rock and ’80s goth. Not only do they steal gleefully from the music of those eras, but they embrace the sound of those old recordings with open arms. The debut Strange House and follow-up Primary Colours present 21 glorious examples of what music used to sound like in the glory days of indie rock. “Count in Fives” is the second track on their debut album, and sounds like a goth-punk version of ? and the Mysterians.
