Song of the Day: May 3, 2024

Continuing my list of the Top 20 albums of 1974, coming in at #16 is Feats Don’t Fail Me Now by Little Feat. Since today is funky Friday, I’ve selected the track “Skin It Back,” a funky tune composed by guitarist Paul Barrère. I’ve paired this album with #17 on the list (Robert Palmer’s Sneakin’ Sally Through The Alley) because it is impossible to separate the sounds of the Palmer record from the music of Little Feat founder Lowell George. Taken as a pair, these albums are important releases of the style of music now called Swamp Rock or Southern Rock, although I also like the term Country Funk for this period of Little Feat’s history. This isn’t the greatest Little Feat album, but it is an essential release in their ’70s discography.
