Song of the Day: May 19, 2024

Continuing my list of the Top 20 albums of 1974, coming in at #9 is The Sun of Latin Music by Eddie Palmieri. Sunday is jazz day, so this is the perfect song to select. This is my favorite salsa album of not only 1974, but all time. Palmieri is a living legend of salsa music. He is a master pianist, composer, and band leader. This was one of the first salsa albums I fell in love with when I started listening to the music about 15 years ago (yet another musical love that is all due to Ms. Faux). It is such an incredible album that the Grammy Awards had to create the category Best Latin Recording in order to give it the recognition it deserved (I admit that may not be entirely true, but it is the first ever winner of the award). “Nada De Ti” starts the album off with an explosive big band salsa arrangement that makes you take to the dance floor after three notes.
