Barbara Pravi featuring Golshifteh Farahani: Marianne
The 2024 Eurovision Song Contest was recently held. There was a lot of political controversy surrounding this year’s contest, but we won’t get into any of that. Ms. Faux and I have become annual viewers of the event because the music is sometimes worth hearing and the productions are always worth seeing. I only bring this up because one of our favorite contestants of the last few years is still releasing interesting and important music. France’s Barbara Pravi placed second in the 2021 Eurovision contest, losing to Italy’s Måneskin. Måneskin have gone on to become international rock stars, but Pravi stole the show with her song “Voila.” Her latest single is called “Marianne.” As explained in this songtell.com article, it celebrates the spirit of resistance, courage, and hope in the face of tyranny and oppression. It serves as a tribute to all those who have fought for justice and freedom, embodying the enduring legacy of individuals like Marianne who continue to inspire and guide us towards a better tomorrow. The song’s message is a call to action for standing up against injustice, holding onto one’s values, and striving for a world where peace and equality prevail. The vocal duties are shared with French/Iranian actress/vocalist Golshifteh Farahani. Like most of Pravi’s work, the music is powerful and the melody is gorgeous.
