Sergent Garcia: Amor Pa Mi
Continuing my focus on the music of 1999, my selection for best international album of the year is Un Poquito Quema’o by Sergent Garcia. This is another album that Ms. Faux and I discovered at a listening station in our favorite CD store. Formed by French vocalist Bruno Garcia, after two decades of work with his punk band Ludwig Von 88, the group plays a form of music he calls salsamuffin. It is a mix of reggae, salsa, cumbia, dancehall, and rock. The music on the album is varied, and most songs have a Latin dance beat. Much like the Vitamin C album featured yesterday, this is a joyous album of infectious dance music.
