Mabe Fratti: Enfrente

Thanks go to Faux, Jr. for recently introducing me to Guatemalan musician Mabe Fratti. She recently released her fourth album, Sentir Que No Sabes, and it is fantastic. She is a cellist/vocalist and her fusing of Christian, classical, avant-garde, and pop music is a unique addition to the music of 2024. “Enfrente” is the lead single, and is one of the most straightforward tunes on the album. Opener “Kravitz” grabs your attention right away and closer “Angel nuevo” is a gorgeous work of avante-garde balladry. There are experimental excerpts interwoven among the 13 tracks, creating a well-crafted conceptual collection. This album is now on my growing short list for best of the year.
