NewDad: Angel
Irish goth-rockers NewDad released their debut album Madra in January. This is 21st century goth-pop a la The Cure and Bauhaus. If you like that sort of thing, it is worth a listen. I do, so I listened. It’s not groundbreaking, but it works well if you are in the mood. Album opener “Angel” sounds like a modern take on The Cure’s Seventeen Seconds/Faith-era material. Vocalist/guitarist Julie Dawson provides pleasant vocals which some may find at odds with the sound of the band. Overall, this is good night-time music for winding down, but I wouldn’t crank it up while driving around town in the summer with the windows down. It was released in January, which was perfect timing for an album that conjures up the depressive qualities of winter’s gray coldness.

I listened too, to Angel, with my eyes closed half the time.
