Allie X: Galina

I think I’ll focus the next few days on 2024 albums by female artists, starting with Girl With No Face by Allie X. The third album in seven years by the Canadian avant-pop artist is on my growing short list of the best of the year. This record is a non-stop 80s electronic groove and her most personal album. She composed and produced all of the songs. She is 39, so she started recording later than most of her contemporaries, but this music sounds as fresh as any alt-pop out there right now. This is the latest album of the last few years that shows the ever-growing influence of Kate Bush on the world of modern alternative pop music, and that is a good thing.
