Les Amazones d’Afrique: Kuma Fo (What They Say)

It’s funky Friday! Wrapping up this week’s focus on 2024 releases by female artists is the song “Kuma Fo (What They Say).” Musow Danse is the third album by Real World label artist Les Amazones d’Afrique, and it is a collection of fantastic tracks like this one. The group is a collective of vocalists from West African nations including Mali, Côte d’Ivoire, and Nigeria. This album is filled with wonderful harmonies and synth-based compositions that range from ballads to upbeat funk. This is 21st century music that presents a diverse amalgam of musical styles with a focus on lyrics that celebrate womanhood. The Real World label is known for presenting important artists such as this, and this is about as good as their modern releases get.
