Song of the Day: August 26, 2024

Daily life has been rolling at a rapid pace for DeeJay Faux over the last couple of weeks, and I haven’t been able to keep up with these daily posts as much as I would like (although I haven’t missed one yet!). I’m working on a Top 10 Albums of 2014 series of posts, and that will take some time to prepare. In the meantime, I think I’ll make this week a Radio Faux Show Flashback week, with each day presenting a song from an old post during the first 3 years of my life as DeeJay Faux. Feel free to go back and check out the old Faux Show format (which was similar to an online music magazine format, with dozens of songs and information about them provided weekly with an overall theme) or simply listen to today’s song.

I’ve chose “Vynnaya Ya” by DakhaBrakha to represent the music I discussed in Radio Faux Show Volume 2, Number 13 on March 27, 2022. The theme of the show was the music of Ukraine, and this song is one of the most impactful songs I have discovered while making these shows. Since discovering the music of DakhaBrakha, they have become a Faux household favorite, and we were even lucky enough to see them perform live. It was one of the most powerful live performances I have ever seen, and they are one of the most original and important bands in the world today. This song slowly builds, but in the end it will make you jump up, dance, and smile incessantly. This is pure joy.

To learn more about DakhaBrakha, check out their Wikipedia page or watch this amazing Tiny Desk concert.
