Song of the Day: September 5, 2024

Continuing my focus on the Top 10 albums of 2014, coming in at #7 is The Take Off and Landing of Everything by Elbow. This is not the best Elbow album, but at this point in my life any album by Elbow is under consideration for best of the year. The songs on this release don’t have the immediate impact as some of their other albums, but there is an overall mood that permeates this collection. I know that there are better albums than this one that were released in 2014, but the Faux household is an unashamedly Elbow household, and I will take every opportunity to voice my opinion that they are one of the most underrated and overlooked artists of the last 20 years.

  1. Agreed about being criminally underrated. Which is why I feel lucky to have “found” them through Canadian DJ David Marsden’s live show and internet stream. He features them from time to time and I like what I’ve heard.

    1. It’s awesome you have discovered them. I know they have a large fan base, but IMO they are better than their peers such as Coldplay, etc but never found that level of success. Cast of Thousands is one of my favorite albums ever.
