Song of the Day: September 15, 2024

Sunday is jazz day. Continuing my focus on the music of 2014, the best Latin jazz album of the year was The Offense Of The Drum by Arturo O’Farril & The Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra. This album won the Grammy for Best Latin Jazz Album, and deserved it. O’Farril is an icon of Latin jazz who started his career in the ’80s and became an A-list Latin jazz artist in the 21st century. This album is a great example of how music in the 21st century has become global, with styles ranging from traditional Afro-Cuban to Hip-Hop all melded together into a Latin jazz explosion.
