Beck: Heart is a Drum
Continuing my focus on the Top 10 albums of 2014, coming in at #3 is Morning Phase by Beck. Beck released 11 albums between 1993 and 2008, each one a little different. That was a period when you could expect him to release something new and wonderful every year or two, from his early anti-folk beginnings to his genre-defining nerd-hop to his landmark neo-folk album Sea Change. It then took 6 years for him to release his 2014 album Morning Phase. Harkening back to the compositions on his classic 2002 album Sea Change, this is the last great Beck album. Unless he miraculously finds another new direction in the years ahead, which currently seems doubtful based on the two albums he has released since 2014, Beck fans will have to be satisfied with the fact that in 2014 he pulled together a career of songwriting and production into this final classic.

Nerd-hop is an entirely new phrase to me! You introduce me to so much, and I love this song.
