Can: Spoon
Continuing my focus on artists who died in 2024, today I present a song by Can. If you dive into my past posts, you will discover that I love the German progressive band Can. They were the theme of the third Faux Show and their songs were featured in two of my Rock and Roll Hall of Fame snubs shows on October 31, 2021 and on July 24, 2022. Damo Suzuki was the second and most influential vocalist for the band. The three albums he recorded with the band are masterworks that have influenced the sound of modern music as much as any other bands, including all of those British and American rock and soul artists from the last 70 years that everyone can name without thinking. Like other critically recognized but publicly ignored bands such as The Fall, Nick Drake, The Replacements, The Minutemen, and Big Star, Can are a band who continue to influence the modern sound of music by being a group that musicians listen to even if the public ignores them. Damo Suzuki’s music makes me happier than that of almost anyone who ever lived. Suzuki died on February 9, 2024. Rest in peace you idiosyncratic genius, and thanks for all the great songs.

Thanks for pointing out what to listen for. 🙂
