The Moody Blues: Lost in a Lost World
Continuing my focus on artists who died in 2024, today I present a song by The Moody Blues. Mike Pinder was a founding member of the band, a primary songwriter of their early material, and the keyboardist. He died on April 24, 2024. The fact that any of us have heard of The Moody Blues is amazing since, after they had an international hit with their song “Go Now” in 1965, original members Clint Warwick (bass) and Denny Laine (guitar/vocals) left the band. While Laine went on to ultimately form the band Wings with Paul McCartney, Pinder was left with a drummer and no one to play guitars or sing. He then recruited guitarist/vocalist Justin Hayward to replace Laine and bassist/vocalist John Lodge to replace Warwick. The rest, as they say, is history. Mike Pinder did not write many songs for the band once Lodge and Hayward joined, but he was a driving force behind the band due to his amazing keyboard skills and mastery of the mellotron before most had even heard of the instrument. I’ve selected the song “Lost in a Lost World,” which was written by Pinder and is one of my favorite songs by the band.

Didn’t know this history. I enjoyed the different Moody Blues expressions, even the 80s ones!

I also love the ’80s Moody Blues pop years. Their vocals are wonderful.
