Frank Zappa: Dancin’ Fool
Continuing this week’s focus on Frank Zappa, today’s song is “Dancin’ Fool” from the 1979 album Sheik Yerbouti. After releasing several of his most successful and best-known works in the early ’70s, Zappa spent the rest of the decade in turmoil surrounding his record label and various legal troubles. By 1979, he had started his own label (Zappa Records) and the first album he self-released is his best-selling album. Sheik Yerbouti is a sprawling double album of parody, satire, sexual innuendo, anti-disco sentiment, and experimental bits and pieces to hold it all together. It is still both reviled and beloved, and its lyrical content is still divisive for anyone who listens.
