Photo of the Day: December 2, 2024

Today’s photo is the first in a series of holiday pix. This is a photo of our favorite Christmas tree. It is an original 1950s aluminum tree that we purchased over 20 years ago from an Ebay seller whose parent worked at the factory* where they were made. There is no lack of examples of people making fun of artificial trees, from the wonderful Charlie Brown Christmas special to almost every Hallmark holiday movie, but we had to give them up decades ago due to multiple allergies; and unlike live trees, this vintage tree has served its multiple owners annually for almost 75 years. That is tradition as much as chopping down another Fraser Fir every year. The red coloring is from the color wheel that spins and shines alternating colors on the tree.

*If you are interested, this aluminum tree was manufactured and sold by Hibbard Spencer Bartlett & Company, one of the first hardware chains and the predecessor to True Value Hardware.

I’ve also included a song by Vince Guaraldi Trio.

  1. The music is wonderful, and I love the idea of a vintage tree. We have an artificial tabletop tree, which was pretty nice to sit with during Thanksgiving dinner last week, surprisingly. πŸ™‚
