Hector Lavoe, Willie Colon, and Yomo Toro: Aires de Navidad
Sunday is jazz day and this is a Holiday edition. If you didn’t look at the album cover, you may not realize that this is holiday music. Asalto Navideno was released in 1971, with Volume 2 released in 1972. These were some of the first albums released under Willie Colon’s name, which lands this album on the short list of Holiday albums released during an artist’s prime. This is Grade-A salsa from the period that defines salsa, Latin Jazz, and Nuyorican music. Anyone who loves this music should Rejoice, Rejoice! that these albums were recorded during this time period.
