Lou Rawls: Good Time Christmas
It’s funky Friday, Holiday style! One of the best soul Holiday albums is Merry Christmas, Ho! Ho! Ho! by Lou Rawls. It was released in 1967, before Rawls scored his biggest hits. Track 1 is a great version of “Little Drummer Boy” (a song that I normally find boring) and Track 4 (“Christmas Is”) should be covered by everyone who makes a Holiday album, but it is Track 2 (“Good Time Christmas”) that brings the funk. This song is what Holiday funk music is all about – the drums are in the pocket, the horns are fantastic, and Rawls’ vocals are in prime form.
