Yard Act: We Make Hits
It’s almost New Year’s, so I’m going to focus the next few weeks of posts on my favorite music of 2024. This won’t be a traditional Top 10 list format like I have done in the past. Instead, I’m going to present a wide variety of new songs that I have enjoyed over the past year. Some of these may be from albums that I have already highlighted, so I will most assuredly be duplicating some songs that I featured earlier this year.
I’m going to start with a band who released my favorite album of 2022. Yard Act’s 2022 debut album The Overload is an amazing homage to the post-punk sounds of The Fall and other similar early ’80s groups, and the single “The Overload” was one of the best singles and videos of that year. Their second album is called Where’s My Utopia? and was released in March of 2024. I think it is even better than their debut. The single “We Make Hits” is a fantastic post-punk groove that may be my favorite rock song of 2024 and the rest of the album is one banger after another. If you don’t get Yard Act, I understand. If you do get them, this is a perfect release.
