Rachel Chinouriri: Never Need Me

Continuing my Best of 2024 list, British/Zimbabwean singer/songwriter Rachel Chinouriri released her debut album in May 2024. What a Devestating Turn of Events is a catchy collection of indie-rock/pop that combines a variety of modern styles. There are several standout tracks – album opener “Garden of Eden” verges on shoegaze, “Never Need Me” is catchy indie-rock, “All I Ever Asked” is downbeat pop, “Robbed” is a gorgeous mid-tempo ballad, and “The Hills” is a post-grunge power-pop tune that reminds me of Smashing Pumpkins and Liz Phair.
