Lupe Fiasco: Cake

Continuing my Best of 2024 list, today’s bonus song is “Cake” from the album Samurai by Lupe Fiasco. This is my favorite rap album of the year. Inspired by artists such as A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, and Nas, Fiasco has been releasing critically-acclaimed, New-School influenced rap since his debut in 2006. His latest album presents 8 songs that add to his already impressive catalog. There is nothing groundbreaking here, but if you like an older hip-hop style that is devoid of misogynistic lyrics, this is for you. Fiasco is a rapper, producer, and music educator who is about to begin a new chapter as a professor at the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore.
