Bonus Song of the Day: January 17, 2025

Tuxedo: Cake

I just wrapped up my Best of 2024 posts, and now I’m going to introduce a new Radio Faux Show Song of the Day plan. I’ll continue to present a song every day, including Funky Friday, Lost Classics Saturday, and Sunday Jazz, but I want to try to focus on a lot of new music this year. Therefore, I may start to post more Bonus Songs of the Day so that I can feature brand new music that I have just discovered, as well as older music.

This new plan will start today. Since it is Funky Friday, I posted an Arabic funk tune from 1983 earlier this morning, and now I feel like kicking of the end of the week with some new funk from retro-funk duo Tuxedo. It is early January, so there isn’t much brand new funk from 2025 yet, but Tuxedo IV was released in November 2024 and I just discovered it. Formed about 10 years ago by accomplished musician/producers Mayer Hawthorne and Jake One, these grooves are set firmly in the funk sounds of the late 70s/early 80s. If you are familiar with Chic and late-period Kool & The Gang, you will recognize the sound of Tuxedo immediately.

To listen to all of the songs of the day, check out the Radio Faux Show Song of the Day playlist.
