Bret McKenzie: “All I Need”

Bret McKenzie is one half of the New Zealand duo Flight of the Conchords. If you don’t know what that means, then I’ve provided some info and videos below. McKenzie’s new solo album Freak Out City releases this summer. “All I Need” is the debut single.

What you should know about Flight of the Conchords:

  1. The Flight of the Conchords is a musical comedy duo created by Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement in 1999.
  2. The Flight of the Conchords was an HBO show that ran for 2 seasons from 2007-2009.
  3. The show was co-created by McKenzie, Clement, and James Bobin.
  4. Taika Waititi and Clement started their collaborative efforts in the late ’90s and Waititi directs several episodes of the show.
  5. James Bobin was co-creator of Borat and directed the new Muppets movies in 2011 and 2014.
  6. McKenzie won a Grammy for his song “Man or Muppet” from the 2011 film.
  7. Clement and Waititi created the Wellington New Zealand franchise that includes What We Do In The Shadows (both the film and tv series) and Wellington Paranormal.
  8. Waititi is now one of the most important directors in Hollywood (two Thor films, JoJo Rabbit, Next Goal Wins, and others) as well as the creator of tv shows such as the wonderful Reservation Dogs.
