“Grace, Too” is from the the fourth album by Canadian rock royalty The Tragically Hip. They performed the track on SNL in 1995, arguably the greatest moment in Canadian rock and roll history that doesn’t involve Rush. There is no reason for today’s selection – I just felt like listening to this song.

Gord Downie and Tragically Hip are criminally underrated, by far. I was introduced to their music in the early aughts by a Canadian friend and was immediately drawn to Downie’s plaintive, earnest, and powerful delivery. I was not familiar with this song in particular, but I’m so glad I am, now. It pulsates with raw emotion. I would choose listening to Tragically Hip vs. Rush every single time. Thank you for posting this and RIP Gord Downie–a huge loss to the music world.

I did not listen to them until a few years ago. They should have been huge in the States but never were for some reason – probably just because they are Canadian.

Yep, and there’s that, too. I personally know several fantastically gifted Canadian musicians that were never able to break into the US market. Blatant snobbery and our loss, big time.

For every Neil Young there are a thousand ignored Canadian artists like Ron Sexsmith.

I have to admit I had to look him up. Now, I’m going to have to dig deeper. Thank you for the lead!
