3 Song Dance Party: July 2, 2025

Inspired by the 3 Song Dance Party concept that Amy Poehler has championed in her Podcast Good Hang, I am going to create my own 3 Song Dance Party posts every Wednesday. Poehler’s concept is simple – dancing is a great way to relieve stress, increase focus, and have fun, and about 10 minutes of dancing is all you need. Her basic rule of thumb is that your set should grow in intensity, and I totally agree. I am going to add to that by stating that my concept of a 3 Song Dance Party is that it should be enablist. If you are unfamiliar with the term in this context, it means that a dance party should allow anyone, with any disability, to participate. If you are able to dance all around the house then go for it, but you can also dance in your chair or while lying down or cooking or cleaning. Anyone can dance, even if you simply nod your head, tap your foot, bounce in your chair, or wave your arm. The old cliche “dance like no one is watching” sounds like a positive saying on the surface, but it is actually born out of society’s need to mock, ridicule, and judge. I say screw what people think and just dance however you f’ing want, whenever you want. Who cares if someone is watching?

The only other rule that Ms. Faux and I are going to follow in the song selection for these posts is that each 3-song set should include music from male and female artists, different decades, and different parts of the world. You can listen to these 3 Song Dance Party playlists on Amazon Music, Spotify, or with the YouTube links below.

This week’s songs:
