Thanks to Faux Jr. for introducing me to Maryland hip-hop artist McKinley Dixon. His new album Magic, Alive! was released a month ago. Dixon is a rarity in the world of hip-hop because he performs with a live band. The band presents a groove throughout the album that combines jazz, funk, and soul into a fresh sound that works perfectly for Dixon’s introspective lyrics. This summer is turning into a summer of hip-hop for me, and this album is a perfect addition to the mix.
