When I started the original Radio Faux Show, one of my favorite themes was to take a trip around the world and learn about music that I do not know. I’ll come back to my normal posts in a few weeks, such as Sunday Jazz and Saturday Lost Classics, but for now let’s continue our journey across the globe.
Nemours Jean-Baptiste was the inventor of the Haitian style of music known as compas and was the leader of several bands, including Group Compas Direct. He developed the compas style in the 1950s. It is a form of meringue and demands that you start to dance as soon as you hear it.
