When I started the original Radio Faux Show, one of my favorite themes was to take a trip around the world and learn about music that I do not know. I’ll come back to my normal posts in a few weeks, but for now let’s continue our journey around the globe.
Mosotho Chakela was a leading artist in the traditional Lesotho music style known as famo. I did not know about this music until now and I am loving it. It sounds like a fusion of traditional African music and zydeco.
Interesting sidenote: Chakela was known as the Accordion Cowboy and was a supposed hit man. Although he was never convicted of murder, many people attest to the fact that he was in fact a murderer. He died of Covid in 2021 just before a trial was to begin in which he was charged with being hired by the Prime Minister of Lesotho to kill his wife.
