Bill Frisell with the Brussels Philharmonic: Throughout
Sunday is jazz day. Bill Frisell has been a leader in jazz guitar innovation since his start in the ’80s, including his influential work with John Zorn, dozens of collaborations with artists such as Paul Motian and Elvis Costello, and a wide variety of film scores. Orchestras is a new double album collection of 16 pieces performed with both the Brussels Philharmonic and The Umbria Jazz Orchestra. All of the tunes present Frisell’s trio (Frisell on guitar, Thomas Morgan on bass, and Rudy Royston on drums) improvising within the sweeping flow of the orchestras. The results are breathtaking. “Throughout” is a Frisell composition performed with the Brussels Philharmonic.
