Stevie Wonder: Smile Please
Continuing my list of the Top 20 albums of 1974, coming in at #15 is Fulfillingness’ First Finale by Stevie Wonder. I’m not going to say much about this album. It is the fourth of five classic ’70s albums that Wonder recorded from 1972 to 1976. Those albums redefined R&B/Soul music, culminating in his 1976 double-album masterpiece Songs In The Key of Life. Fulfillingness’ First Finale does not present the breathtaking scope of genius that Songs In The Key of Life did, but it is still an incredible collection of material that serves as a stepping stone after 1973’s Innervisions. “Smile Please” is one of Wonder’s best album openers. The man is a genius, and this 1974 album is a small part of the proof for that fact.
