Song of the Day: May 21, 2024

Continuing my list of the Top 20 albums of 1974, coming in at #7 is Sheer Heart Attack by Queen. After releasing two well-received, modestly successful albums, Queen kicked off their run of classic ’70s albums in 1974 with Sheer Heart Attack. I’m not going to say much about this. Queen are now recognized as legends. Their discography includes some of the most recognizable songs in rock history (“Bohemian Rhapsody,” “We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions,” and “Another One Bites The Dust” to name only three). Their 1974 release only contains one well-known hit (“Killer Queen”), but “Brighton Rock” and “Stone Cold Crazy” are both bangers of the glam rock era. Exactly one year later they would release “Bohemian Rhapsody” and the album A Night At The Opera, but their 1974 release was the stepping stone to their 1975 success.

  1. My dad loves Queen. One night he picked me up from my cousin’s place and a Queen song came on the radio as we were pulling into the driveway. We sat in the car to listen to the rest of the song together. I’ll always remember that.

I’m particularly fond of “My Melancholy Blues.”
