Song of the Day: June 4, 2024

Ms. Faux is a K-Drama fan, so I hear a lot of music from the shows. Usually, the music is either written expressly for the show by Korean studio artists or is pulled from the shelves of hundreds of incidental pieces used by each of the studios. There is nothing wrong with that, but it makes it all the more surprising when new music by a non-Korean artist is highlighted in the show. The new drama The Midnight Romance in Hagwon OST is one such show. Featuring at least four new songs by the group The Restless Age, the music of the show sent us researching who this group was that sounded like ’70s rock from America. Sure enough, The Restless Age are from New York and are a throwback to the soft rock of the early part of that decade. They look like Firefall, sound like Bread, and are hopefully on the verge of a full-length album. They have been around for a while as a studio and live touring band for other artists, most notably as The Night Flyers for Donald Fagen’s solo tour a few years ago. They have now branched out as an independent Indie Rock band, and their melodies, harmonies, and musicianship deserve to be recognized. If the song “Don’t Forget About Me” is any indication, they should find success.
