FKA twigs: Two Weeks
Continuing my focus on the Top 10 albums of 2014, coming in at #6 is LP1. Anyone looking for an easily accessible collection of R&B bangers will find this debut album for British avant-pop/experimental R&B artist FKA twigs disappointing, but if you’re looking for an album that sounds like Prince collaborating with Kate Bush in a psychedelic haze of atmospheric grooves and experimental rhythms then this will satisfy completely. I find the album works best once you realize that twigs uses her voice as a complementary instrument as opposed to the driving force of the music. I have to say that I ignored this album 10 years ago, but my open-ness to modern pop music has expanded greatly during the four years that I have written the Radio Faux Show, and this album is a prime example. There is something special in the experimental grooves of LP1 that brings me back again and again.
