Laurie Anderson: The Rotowhirl (Live)

This is week two of a new song of the day concept in which I provide songs by an artist whose career spans over 40 years. This week’s artist is Laurie Anderson. After her debut album Big Science in 1982, Anderson released several more similar albums of avant-pop-art material. In 1995, she released her first spoken word album, The Ugly One With The Jewels And Other Stories. Taken from her performance piece Stories From The Nerve Bible, it presents a series of autobiographical recollections spoken over minimal musical accompaniment. Today’s song is taken from that album and presents Anderson’s memories of her friendship with groundbreaking comedian Andy Kaufman.
