I’m embarrassed to say that I only learned about Shakin’ Stevens after watching an episode of the wonderful BBC show The Cleaner a couple of weeks ago. In the episode, Stevens portrays Shaking Stephen, a Shakin’ Stevens tribute act, and performs his #2 UK hit “You Drive Me Crazy” from 1982. Stevens started his career in the 1960s but it took awhile before his ’50s throwback sound struck gold. He was the biggest selling singles artist in the UK in the 1980s, with 28 Top 40 hits, including four #1 songs.
